Becoming an MDC Affiliated League:
The Men's Derby Coalition has become the foremost organization in the development of men's roller derby. We work with skaters, refs and organizers to help the positive expansion of the sport and of the roller derby community. Becoming affiliated with the MDC will provide your league with a 'seal of approval'. It will also enable you to aid in the development of men's flat track roller derby.
Requirements:
In order to be recognized by the Men's Derby Coalition as an Affiliated League, we require that your team/league:
- Has a Full Men's Team
- Is Skater-Owned and Operated
- Plays by the WFTDA Ruleset
- Has Played 5 Bouts/Expos as a Team
- Agrees to Split Cost of MDC Conferences
Details:
1. Has a Full Men's Team:
The Men's Derby Coalition encourages the advancement of men's flat track roller derby. We firmly believe that the development of men's derby should start from the ground up: skaters getting together, learning the game and playing together.
2. Skater Owned and Operated:
In the tradition of flat track roller derby, we will only accept leagues and teams that are skater owned and operated. The MDC is operated by skaters, for skaters.
3. Plays by the WFTDA Ruleset:
The WFTDA ruleset - with masculine pronouns - to be specific. WFDTA rules have stood the test of time: Seasoned refs and organizers have standardized and refined the WFDTA rules based on thousands of hours of game play; MDC skaters have helped to develop, coach and play by these rules. This ruleset is constantly evolving and we will continue to promote that evolution.
4. Has Played 5 Bouts/Expos as a Team
Why is this important? The idea is that you have a cohesive group of skaters who train together and have developed a unique team identity. Public bouts demonstrate you have a functional team/league.
Bouts are counted when skaters on your team play on one team (e.g. your team vs another team) or when your league has teams play itself (team in your league vs team in your league). These bouts can also be pre-game and halftime expos, or part of a doubleheader.
Employing guest skaters to play as part of your 'team' is highly discouraged and may keep you from being considered. This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
5. Agrees to Split Cost of MDC Conferences
Affiliated leagues will be required to split the cost of MDC Conferences. This ensures that your league has a say in how events are organized.
